La photographie argentique instantanée existe depuis plus de 80 ans et est aussi vénérée aujourd’hui qu’elle l’était à ses débuts. Edwin Land a fondé Polaroid en 1937, créant à l'origine des masques de ski et des lunettes 3D pour l'armée américaine.

Polaroid a été un outil essentiel et une source d'inspiration pour de nombreux artistes tels qu'Andy Warhol, David Hockney, Robert Mapplethorpe et Keith Haring.
